Sporting Assets worked with Lewes CFC to develop their community programme and then raise the finance for a 3G pitch on land secured by a Community Asset Transfer from East Sussex County Council.

Lewes CFC, are a trailblazing community football club, branding themselves as ‘Equality FC’ due their dedication to levelling the playing field for women in sport. The women’s team play in FA Championship (2nd tier), with the men’s team competing in the Isthmian League (7th tier).

We supported the club to

  • engage local junior football clubs and create a football development plan
  • co-create a multi-sport programme of use for the 3G
  • develop impact led programmes – including establishing Football Therapy, an outreach programme linked to health providers to support participants mental wellbeing

To support raising the finance we produced the business plan and financial model, successfully helping the club raise £220,000 by a community share offer with the subscribers receiving 30% tax relief. In total we supported Lewes CFC secure £700,000.

The club now have a 3G pitch benefitting the club, local communities and the adjacent school have day time access.

Lewes CFC have continued to offer an alternative way of running a football club. They are a magnificent club, punching above their weight. We are proud to have been part of their story.
