Empowering communities through sport!

One of our directors, Tom Hall, wrote a blog for the Public Service Transformation Network last December. The blog shares his experience of working with the East Lancashire Football Development Association on an asset transfer that involved Community Financing for the development of youth football hub, as well as comprehensive business development support. It also suggests there is great potential for community sport to take advantage of social investment and the new Community Rights.

We are now a Big Potential Advanced Provider!

Having been a provider for Big Potential Breakthrough for several months, we are now a provider for the Advanced route as well.

The Advanced route of Big Potential will be available to VCSEs that are clear about how social investment could work for them and can describe a potential deal or interest from investors and need help to close that deal. The Advanced route is also available to organisations that need help securing a contract. Grants of between £50,000 and £150,000 are available.

Lewes FC 3G Pitch

A slightly belated recognition of our first successful project – the Lewes CFC Rookery 3G Pitch. After securing over £850,000 of capital for the club including over £220,000 from a EIS Tax Relief Approved Community Share Offer the facility is now open to the communities of Lewes.

It opened on the 8th July, the 5th anniversary of the club becoming community owned.

Sporting Assets have now helped East Lancashire Football Development Association (ELFDA) raise over £450,000 toward the asset transfer and restoration of nine football pitches at the Woolridge Playing Fields, Blackburn. Soon to follow is a Community Share Offer, which has been supported by a development grant from Big Potential.

Lewes FC Update

A year’s work has seen has raise the required £850,000 for the 3G and asset transfer phase of their proposed redevelopment. Our work included a successful community share offer that raised over £200,000 in four weeks.

We supported the club with their football development plan and 3G programming that have received considerable praise and helped make the case for funding. We also assisted them secure several community related grants and have helped establish their acclaimed Football Therapy programme for mental well-being.

Our initial work with the club has seen a fully funded first phase, increased revenue streams and a growing community programme. We are proud to say nearly all our work so far has been covered by third party funding.
