Sporting Assets is a mission-led social enterprise, working to support, sustain and grow healthy and resilient communities with sport and physical activity at their heart.

Through our advisory services and investments, we empower local communities to develop their community assets, create new enterprises and deliver greater impact. Sporting Assets is part of The Finance For Sustainability Group, a group of social enterprises that manage and advise on impact investment projects across sport, the environment, arts and heritage.

Why we exist

Sport and physical activity create significant value for individuals and communities. It delivers physical and mental wellbeing benefits to our lives, and also uniquely brings communities together, creating stronger and safer places and delivering wider economic benefits.

While it already delivers positive outcomes, the sector could do so much more. It needs a supportive and challenging infrastructure to reach its potential and to deliver impact at greater scale, and we know that finance is a powerful tool to make this happen. This is why Sporting Assets exists. Our investments create more sustainable and impactful community sport enterprises. Our advisory work provides the tools to help ensure organisations have the capability and capacity to deliver.

Ours is a unique proposition, as an advisor to, and investor in, the community sport, community leisure and physical activity sector. And we have an impressive track record of results that work in real world, not just in theory.

What we do

Sporting Assets provide a range of advisory and funding services across the community sport, community leisure and physical activity sectors.


Guidance and support

We provide strategic guidance and support to sector bodies, developing tools, strategies, and resources to help them and their networks develop, diversify income, and improve sustainability.


Business and sports development

We provide a comprehensive package of enterprise and facility development services to support impactful projects, including feasibility studies, business planning, and financial modelling, to wider capacity and capability building. We work with partners to design and deliver capacity building programmes for cohorts of organisations to deliver support at scale, as well as individual projects.


Fund development, design and management

We provide a range of research, investment, cost modelling, structuring, strategy, and fund delivery services, working with partners and investors. We can take clients on the full impact investment journey, from concept through to development, investment, delivery, and exit.


Sector-based strategic advice

We work with impact driven investors to share our experience and understand their needs, to develop products in partnership that work for investor and the sector.


Over the last 10 years we have supported over 250 projects with advice or investment.


We have designed over £500 million of impact investment structures, and manage the only dedicated impact investment funds for the sector.


We are a mission driven social enterprise, with 51% of profits being recycled in on-mission activities and investments.

Who we work with

We work in partnership with a range of sector bodies including Sport England, National Governing Bodies, Active Partnerships, Local Authorities (local and national government) and large infrastructure charities such as The Football Foundation and London Marathon Foundation.

Our funds have been established in conjunction with a range of partners and funders, including The Growth Fund (a partnership between The National Lottery Community Fund and Big Society Capital, delivered by Access through a range of social investors), Big Society Capital and Bank Workers Charity.

Richard Speak
Founding Director

Richard founded Sporting Assets in 2013 as part of the Finance For Sustainability group, a collective of leading social and environmental impact investment advisors and fund managers.

Managing Director

Pete is Managing Director at Sporting Assets. He joined in 2016, enabling him to combine his passion for sport and social enterprise with his strong financial and business background, and since then has worked across all areas of the business.

Paul is a Company Director, and is the Investment Manager for Club Capital, our social investment fund for gymnastics.

Tom Hall
Founding Director

Tom is a Founding Director of Sporting Assets. Tom was instrumental in the initial development of Sporting Assets and delivered a number of pathfinder projects that laid the foundations for the ongoing growth of the enterprise.
